Website design and build for Happy Tours Happy Tours is a project of two halves - an affiliate system on one side and a fun and engaging multi-language website offering bus tours targeting young independent travellers on the other.

The project has been developed for EasyCity – old friends and long-time customers of StudioForty9, who are expanding into the tour bus sector.

To reflect the new direction, the business needed a robust and easy-to-use website that would be capable of driving online sales. However it also needed a way to let online purchases be made from literally hundreds of different websites.

Website Design

The Happy Tours website was specifically designed to complement the new company’s branding and appeal to the target market (young European independent travellers).  Features include:

  • A purpose-built calendar with an engaging “hover-over” feature that draws the audience in.
  • A Booking Engine that integrates with Realex Payments and facilitates discounts being applied by third party agents
  • Availability in four different languages (English, Spanish, Italian and French).

Built on Wordpress, the site’s customised CMS enables administrators to update tour schedules and bookings with ease.

Affiliate Functionality

The most notable feature of this project can’t be seen from the website – a custom-built affiliate system. The centre-piece from a user’s perspective is the calendar mentioned above. This is available to affiliate partners in two forms – an HTML / Javascript widget and a WordPress plug-in.

Affiliate partners can alter the look of the calendar (colour, size, direction of hover-over) and then drop it into their own website. Behind the scenes the system allows Happy Tours to track views and bookings back to the affiliate partner and calculate commissions accordingly.

I have worked with StudioForty9 for many years now. I first commissioned them to build a new website for my company which involved many aspects such as various languages, e-commerce etc. I’ve always found them to be easy to deal with. They explain clearly how certain technical aspects of the website will work and they usually offer different options which are available according to your budget.

I was very happy with the work they did on our company website so when we established a new tours business in early 2012 they were my first port of call for the website. The result has been fantastic and the Content Management System is very user-friendly. I find them approachable when there are issues that need to be dealt with and they are quick to come back with a response to a query. I have recommended them to others and would do so again.
